Between the River and the Sea

Performance and Talk with Yousef Sweid

In “Between the River and the Sea,” Palestinian-Israeli actor Yousef Sweid delves into the chaos of identities, truths, and family life. Raised as a Christian Arab in Haifa, he grapples with his personal sense of being caught in between—where contradictions collide and slogans fall short.

The text, co-written and directed by Isabella Sedlak, weaves together Sweid’s personal experiences with political reflections and deliberately exaggerated observations of everyday life. The solo performance evolves into a multifaceted plea: for ambivalence, tolerance of ambiguity, for nuanced listening, and for those voices that often remain marginalized in public discourse. The result is characterized by discomfort, immediacy, and a consistent refusal to simplify. The performance is followed by a conversation between Senior Rabbi Dr. Gábor Lengyel, Dr. Yazid Shammout (Palestinian community), and the artist.

Die Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt.
